Synergy University Dubai Campus, the first and only university located in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, hosted its 1st annual Counselling Open Day session this month. The event highlighted very important figures around the Higher Education Landscape in Dubai and its effect on the economy as the emirate heads towards EXPO 2020.
The event took place at DMCC’s iconic Almas Tower with active participation from high profile individuals in the UAE, including:
Mr. Fahad Al Gergawi, CEO of Dubai Investment Development Agency (FDI)
Ms. Krysta Fox, Director of DMCC Free Zone
Mr. Oleg Konovalov, Deputy Consul General of the Russian Federation in Dubai
Mr. Nodir Mirakhmedov, Vice Consul of Consulate General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Dubai
Honorary guests Mr. Oleg Konovalov and Mr. Nodir Mirakhmedov delivered inspiring speeches to our students as part of their welcome remarks.
With active participation from Dr. Artem Vasiliev, Academic Head of Synergy University; the panel discussed the various challenges and opportunities that students in Dubai are likely to encounter from now till 2020.
Ms. Krysta Fox also pointed out the importance of business networking and talent development saying: “In DMCC, we strongly believe in empowering the next generation. We are ensuring that they are well equipped to be the leaders of tomorrow. Synergy University is the first in DMCC free zone and the first campus in the Middle East to be located in a free zone, where over 9,900 business structures are located. Mr. Fahad Al Gergawi, Chief Executive Officer of FDI shared some plans related to EXPO 2020 and inspired students to take advantage of Dubai’s booming economy saying:
“Dubai’s plans don’t stop at EXPO 2020; as a matter of fact, EXPO 2020 is a part of a bigger project called Dubai World Central, which will host the new Dubai airport and develop the infrastructure for logistics and other components. For you as graduates you should look into engaging within Dubai, there are great opportunities to utilize out of being in a highly dynamic city like Dubai. You can advise people how to start a business here or start as an entrepreneur yourself. Everyone has a good chance to establish themselves here. This is my advice for you to utilize your Dubai experience and to move forward with it.
According to the experts, UAE will have around 200 000 jobs openings over the next five years. This event aims to provide more information about exciting opportunities available to the students within upcoming EXPO 2020 Dubai, under the theme “connecting minds, creating the future”.
Faculty of Synergy University Dr. Jaafar Badwan and Ms. Wessam Mousa also added great value to the discussion by sharing practical tips for students to succeed and excel in the UAE market. The students then were engaged with a long Q&A where they shared their future visions and expectations while asking for guidance.
