First day of school in the UAE passes smoothly, principals say
Dubai: The first day of school proceeded smoothly for schools across the UAE as hundreds of thousands of students returned from the summer break, principals told Gulf News on Sunday. Around 858,000 students started their first school day of the 2015-16 academic year on Sunday in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and the northern emirates. Coping with a large number of students going back to school can be a challenge for schools, however, principals said the first day passed smoothly thanks to their careful planning.

Getting your high schoolers ready for school
For teenagers and high schoolers, a new year can be challenging – particularly if it’s a new school, let alone a new country and given the revolving door of expat life in the UAE, it’s important to ensure your teen feels prepared for the school year. According to Jonathan Price, managing director, of Eteach International – the Dubai-based branch of the UK online education recruitment service for schools – high school is an adjustment period for many. “Socially, high school is hard for students. Often times, it is noted as the best years of your life, but equally, it can be the hardest. “Students go through a lot during their high school years and often these years are defining moments in a student’s self-discovery and learning.”

Dubai to add 27 private schools and 63,000 seats by 2016
A total of 27 new private schools offering 63,000 seats will open in Dubai by the end of 2016, Ahmed Darwish, chief of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority's (KHDA) Regulations and Permits Commission, has said. Among the new schools recently announced by the KHDA are, Amled School in Al Quoz, German International School Dubai, Dubai British School Jumeirah Park, Hartland International School near Downtown Dubai, Ranches Primary School and the Swiss International Scientific School near Dubai Creek.

UAE clinic helps teens work on their self-confidence
DUBAI // A programme to improve the self-confidence of young people who have trouble coping with their emotions is proving to be a success, organisers say. Bounce Back offers three days a week of training to children whose education and everyday lives have been disrupted because of their emotional difficulties. Billie-Jae Richards, day therapy centre coordinator, said the Camali Clinic programme is helping the teenagers with their issues and offering them a sense of belonging. “The difficulties the people face may be affecting their social functioning and their ability to thrive at school and we recognise that they may need some additional support,” she said.
